Hello,

Thought I'd pop in and say how much exercise has helped me to Love My Body!  and it's not really down to any physical changes in shape.

I have always been lucky in that I am a petite 5ft size 8/10, but I could never see it!  I would focus on the wobbly tum, thighs, stretch marks, big frizzy hair...etc and just generally beat myself up, even tho hubby would compliment me and point out that there are plenty who would like to be in my shoes!

I started exercising again! (as I've tried several times in the past and not stuck to it) but this time I started exercising more for my mental health.  I was feeling stressed in work (new job), low self esteem (always a problem) and feeling very down about life (missing old colleagues).  I've always suffered with low moods but this time it all came to a head and I needed something to focus on so exercise has been my life saviour!

I'm now regularly go jogging with friends, and do a little bit at home, when I want to.  My body is still in the same shape as it was, but now when I look in the mirror, I like what I see!

I know there will be times when my negativity gets the better of me, but hopefully I can find more tips here, to help me Love Body and Mind!

BRAVO!

I love hearing this, the brilliant thing about exercise is it doesnt have to be really strenuous and you dont have to be doing hours a day, it can be gentle and fun and social.

I cannot extol the virtues of exercise enough, it perks up the mind and works the body. Ill give you an example, I am an exercise HATER gyms and me do not mix, I started tap dance about a year ago and I do it twice a week and I absolutely adore it. We have a laugh, we chuckle at each other trying to do steps, we do performances and the sense of achievement is just amazing. Even small things every day I take the dog out for a nice walk (shes only little so she isnt too keen on big walks) and it just blows away the cobwebs and makes me feel invigorated.

Im so chuffed for you that you have felt this change in your mental attitude toward your body, its so healthy and wonderful for you to be appreciating your body any way you can. Our bodies are the only ones we have and if we arent kind to them no one else will be.

Thanks for that brilliant post its so inspiring I hope everyone will read it and see how beneficial it really is. I hope you will keep posting about how you are getting on, its really fabulous to hear such positivity especially when you once didn't feel that way about your body.

Keep posting!

I totally agree that we all have to find the one 'exercise' that motivates us and that we enjoy to keep it up.

I never thought I'd like jogging, and if it wasnt for the fact that I get to meet up with some of the girls I use to work with, I would never have started and definately not kept at it!

But now I actually look forward to the run as much as the chat!  Always looking to push myself a bit harder each time, and am now starting to go out on my own too!  Also the positive effects it has had on my mind is the greatest benefit.

I would recommend any activity that gets people moving is soo beneficial for the mind and body.

I would suggest long or short walks to anyone who is new to exercise, as being outside is a great way to clear the mind and puts everything in to perspective.  Also if you can arrange a regular session with a friend, it gives you something to look forward to when the rest of the day/week feels drab.

Absolutely!

And something that is really fun is brilliant. And I think the problem is people associate exercise with the gym, or these lone runners in the full gear pounding the pavements and it doesnt have to be that. I mean dance works for me because its challenging and fun and we just laugh and laugh. And we all know how good laughter is for the soul.

Anything that gets you out and gets you social! I had such a thing about rollerskating for the longest time, I keep meaning to get the skates out and get on the great paths with my legwarmers!

Be fun and keep it easy!
