A little embarrassed, since I introduced myself a few months ago with every intention of getting back into running post-baby. Well, Finn is now 4 months old (no idea where the time has gone) and I have finally been out!!!

My cousin is a member of the local running club so I commandeered her for moral support and dragged her along on Monday night to the beginners group (she's quite advanced, recently completed Berlin Marathon in 4hr 23mins!!!).

Just before I got pregnant with Finn I completed a half marathon, so I was secretly hoping I'd pick up where I left off, but no such luck. Everything wobbled that little bit more!!! I don't think I did too badly; we did a 5k run (well, jog) and I didn't walk much of it, just when we were re-grouping. However, I now ache in places I never knew existed :-)

Going to go out on my own in the morning as DF will be here to watch Finn, and planning to go back to the running club next week to start toning up and shifting this baby weight. Can't wait to get the running bug back!

Hey Ellie :o)

Nice to have you back and there's no need to be embarrassed! People dip in and out of the board all the time and the fact that your back and wanting to give it another try says it all :o)

And well done at braving a running club! I shouldn't worry too much about getting back to your HM days, for now I'd just concentrate on tying to get out regularly for short runs and get back into the habit before you think about distance so much. Its easier (and better for you) to extend the distance once your in the habt of running rather than going out once a fortnight for a 8 mile run and it nearly killing you. On the plus side, I'm pretty sure it'll be easier to get up to your previous level this time round that when you 1st started out.

Keep us posted on your (2nd time) progress ;o)

Hi Ellie welcome back, and huge well done on running 5K!

I started out again when DD2 was 6 weeks old and couldn't run a mile.  Did a 10K race when she was 6 months old and a HM when she was 12 months.  I am sure I could've got there more quickly but was in no rush.  In fact I found it much easier getting back up to speed second time round, so I am sure you will be back into the swing of it in no time.

Take care and keep us posted on how you are getting on.

Hi Clair & Lucy,

Thanks for your messages of support (Clair - 8 miles??? Hahahahahaha). I have started a running diary because I think if there is a chance of someone monitoring my progress then I'm bound to keep at it. My plan is to try and go twice a week even if only for 30 mins. I don't think I will be able to go to the running club every week as DF works shifts. Am thinking of signing up for a 10k to give me some motivation.

Will keep you updated on my progress!
