Can I get away with not exercising for before I start losing tone?

In fact I think I have started to lose some only 10 days later! I haven't been able to exercise for 10 days due to illness and I don't know when/if I will be able to go back to the gym (I'm trying to get myself better)

What can I do at home? I have had a look at the folders below but would like a bit of a plan if possible

I need to do resistance exercises but only have 3kg dumbells and I know I'll need to do cardio , any ideas and for how long etc?

TIA

Hi Scarlett,

tbh if you're ill/recovering from an illness you should probably just rest and allow your body the time it needs. If you exercise before your body is really ready for it then you could just be working at cross purposes and it'll set you back in the long run.

Concentrate on good quality nutrition, if you can get out for a walk or something like that then do so, but be kind to yourself and don't rush back too quickly. If by losing tone you mean muscle wastage it'll be alot longer than 10 days - atrophy happens after long periods of immobilisation. If by lack of tone you mean increase in flab then yes that can happen reasonably quickly, but once you're well and start exercising again it'll disappear! So don't worry!

Get well soon

Hi Scarlett,

How are you feeling now (sorry, I've only just noticed I didn't reply t'other day). I know you're used to going to the gym but I really believe you can get a good workout at home even if you don't have huge swathes of equipment. And in fact doing something different to what you're used to might give you a boost (I put my DH on a new routine last week, oh is he suffering/grateful now!)

I am a big fan of circuits as I've probably said before, they can make you feel like you've had an adequate workout using very little equipment at all. Not necessarily fun but I think they get some good results. Or if you have a bit of spare cash I recommend Billy Blanks Taebo dvd's for a bit of variety and sweating.
