Hi all

I know that my weight loss to date is something that many will probably be jealous of lol, but I'm actually wondering whether or not it's entirely healthy (eSource even told me off today when I entered this week's weight)!

Before when I've been doing WW I've had losses of no more than 2lb per week, and usually half a lb or 1lb. However so far my losses have been 6lb, 3lb, 3.5lb. I don't know if it makes any difference that this is baby weight I'm losing now (although the weight that I'd gained during pregnancy I did lose almost immediately upon giving birth as I didn't gain much and DS alone weighed 10lb 8oz lol)?

I'm doing lots of brisk walking but I'm not using any exercise points as my exercise actually equates to just about the healthy amount per week anyway.

I'm also now on Depo so was expecting to find weight loss harder than usual on it, as last time I did WW I was on Depo but I did have those half lb weekly losses not bigger ones like these.

I'm actually wondering whether this is something I need to raise with my GP, but not just because of the unusual rate of weight loss... For my entire pregnancy I had hyperemesis and I'm still sick occasionally now (but I still count the points for my food as normal) and also (very embarrassingly) my bowels are far from normal (I won't go into detail but it's worse than just diarrhoea) and I don't know whether this is down to the hyperemesis I had and/or the emergency c-section or just normal following pregnancy... So could my weight loss actually be down to this as opposed to following the plan? I am following it rigidly, though, and as I said I'm not using any points I earn from exercise which I have done previously for weekly treats when I've followed WW in the past...

Any ideas anyone? Perhaps some of you have also experienced different weight loss before and after having a baby?

Hi Lisa

OK, I'd be lying if I didn't say that yes, I am jealous of your weight loss.  You've lost more in 3 weeks than I have in 7!!!  BUT...I am happy with my weight loss and that's what counts (LOL).

I know that when I did WW after having Jamie (joined a class on the day of my 6 week check), I was like you and didn't have too much to lose as I'd only put on an average amount in pregnancy.  I had around a stone to get back to pre-baby weight.  I did that gradually over the 5 months left of my maternity leave.  So my loss rate then was about what it is now and same as when I did WW last year.

My bowels were VERY loose in the last 3 months of pregnancy - it was really like water (sorry if TMI).  I had tests done at the doc's and they couldn't find anything wrong so we put it down to hormones.  It must have been as it cleared up as soon as I'd had Jamie.  Everyone goes on about pregnancy constipation but it obviously affects people differently.

Have you had any stool tests done with the doctors as this would be a first step?  It would all be worth a chat at least, even if just to put your mind at rest.  It might well be though that your weight loss will settle down and it's just that you are being very good.  I often go a bit over my points in wine which I blame for mine being a bit slow.

HTH

Hi Linda

Thank you for replying. Think I might make an appointment with the GP. I should have said that I have PCOS and I have NEVER experienced big weekly losses like this before ever - as I mentioned before I'm usually a half or 1 lb a week girl, and it took some time to get to my original goal even when I was running 5 times a week and on metformin. So this really is unusual for me!

Maybe I am just being much better this time round?! (Motivation of wanting to be a yummy mummy and not ever wear maternity clothes again unless I'm pg LOL)

I have not had a baby, but from what you say, you seem to be losing weight at an alarming rate so I would be inclined to think it was something medical that needs to be checked out with your doctor.

You need to be safe rather than sorry and whatever this is (if medical) could get worse if it is not checked out and nipped in the bud.

Message: hi, congrats on baby.  all your symptoms including going to the loo all the time are very common with thyrotoxicosis which is frequently sparked off after delivery.  you just need tft's doing and if high will need carbimazole, love becky xx
