Just treated myself to Jamie's Ministry of Food book! It looks really good. Anyone else got it and tried any recipes at all?

I had a look through my friend's copy.
One of the ideas I really liked was his "Evolution" dishes where there are 4 photos of the same dish but it starts off very basic and then he shows how to incorporate extra ingredients to make it a little bit more special. I have never been shy about experimenting, nor have I ever felt outfaced if something appears to have too many ingredients going on, but I know plenty of people who DO have these problems. For example, thinking about the people he taught to cook, if he had told them to make a tomato salad with fresh basil leaves and parmesan shavings they'd have told him to f*** off but starting off with some nice tomatoes just drizzled with a bit of olive oil isn't too "poncey".
His curry recipes are really good, I am not saying they are authentically "Indian" but if you don't have access to Asian supermarkets or Indian people in your inner-circle to be critical about the recipes, they are actually really tasty and they use ingredients you can easily get at Sainsburys.
I know the nation is kind of divided in their opinions of Le Oliver but I won't have him dissed - end of.

Yes, I thought the Evolution dishes looked really useful too. There was also a stew/casserole section where he has one basic stew recipe, and then different meat/alcohol combos you can add to this, i.e. steak and ale, prok and cider and then different toppings - pastry/potato/dumplings etc. to get a mix and match style meal. One basic recipe which can be turned into about 12 different end products.
I think he's great in general, all his school dinners work and the ministry of food stuff, and the 15 restaurant, he's done such a lot of good work - things that the government should have been doing. He is a love him or hate him kind of chap though. And a bit liberal with the olive oil for my liking!

That sounds great, I might have a look next time I'm at Borders. I like Jamie and have his first 4 books, use them all the time, especially for pasta and bread.
