hi there

i wanted some advice as i am always being had a go at by my mother for 'not eating real food' or not eating properly, even though i think i eat fine.

brekfast id usually branflakes or unsweetend museli with skimmed milk and fruit or the occasional brown toast and marmite

lunch and dinner depend on if im working but usually a mix of pasta in tomato sauce, coucous salad with veg and tuna, chicken or salmon with noodles and veg or jacket potato and veg/salad, fruit, yoghurt, sunday roast :), occasionall i eat burgers, sausages or breaded chicken/fish but only one of these every fortnight or so.

i eat 4-6 portions of fruit and veg a day and occasional nuts/seeds but not many as theyre high in fat.

my vices are choclate and biscuits, tho try to limit these to once or twice a week.

i drink skimmed milk and dont have sugar in my tea/coffee.

my mum thinks i dont eat well as i get hungry before a meal - something i've tried to tell her is normal, but she says she never gets hungry, therefore in her logic im the odd one not her! she especially cant understand how i wake up hungry and ready for breakfast, when i eat dinner between 6 and 7 pm so i think its quite normal that i'd be hungry the next day!?

she eats sweetened cerial, white toast and sandwhiches, crisps and processed food, so i think ite her that doesnt eat 'properly' not me, but she doesnt see that.

she also doesnot believ that you can get protein from anything but meat, especially red meat, so tells me one chicken breast is not a real portion and i need to eat red meat (which i dont like).

i was hoping that by getting peoples views on here (good and bad, im open for suggestions on changing my diet) i could show her how 'normal' or 'abnormal' my diet is.

sorry for the moan, but i am not a child and do not appreciate being treated like one!

Hi

I've not been on this board for ages, so 'hello', but I came looking for some motivation to keep going with the healthier eating, and your diet looks perfect to me.  Nicely balanced but very healthy.

You eat really healthily but aren't taken over by it as you still enjoy chocolate and biscuits.  Sounds just right to me. :o)

As long as you are healthy and have plenty of energy, you're getting everything from your diet.  Could your mum be slightly jealous perhaps that you eat so well?  Does she find it difficult to stick to healthy eating herself?  It's funny how people's minds work - maybe she feels better about what she eats if she is convincing herself your diet isn't 'normal'?  Hope that makes sense!

I think alot of people don't actually feel hungry before they eat a snack or meal nowadays.  It's probably why there are so many unhealthy people about!

Hello to both of you!

Firstly, your diet looks excellent to me, as BB said, you have a good balance & healthy diet but without going over the top and depriving yourself. I think sometimes we can get a bit bogged down by what's healthy & what's not when the reality is most things are fine in moderation, nuts & seeds are no bad thing- in fact they're very good for you as they contain the kind of healthy fats many of us should be eating more of. We are always hearing about what we should and shouldn't eat but it's really not as complicated as all that. I personally think variety is of key importance so you get a range of nutrients you need, another thing high on my list when it comes to healthy eating is wholegrains & you include them.
I think perhaps your mother is in denial about her own eating? But you need not worry because you definitely eat properly!

And hello BB, how are you? haven't 'seen' you for ages, do pop over to the board more often :) hope you're well.
