Hi, i have been on a healthy diet and fitness plan for eight weeks now and have not lost any weight. I eat between 12 and 14 hundred calories a day and do a 50 minute cardio workout three times a week and 50 minutes circuit training twice a week I do a spinning class and at weekends I have a 40 minute power walk. As I said I have been doing this for eight weeks now and have not lost  any weight. People keep telling me that I look thinner but even the tape measure doesn't show any difference. Has anyone any help or advice as to why this is happening. I am 49 and weigh 11stone,  I am 5ft2".

Hi there,
welcome to the board. You do quit a lot of exercise so it could be possible that you are in fact undereating for your activity levels. It might be worth looking at the ivillage health calculator to find out how many calories it recommends for your height, weight & activity levels. It may sound strange but sometimes boosting your calories for a short period can help.
http://www.ivillage.co.uk/health/healthcalculator/start

you need to select the daily reccomendation box (under the weight calculation) and then enter your details. It will show you approx how many calories you need to maintain your current weight & you should then deduct 500kcals from the total to lose 1lb a week. eg. if it said you need 2100kcals per day, you would deduct 500kcals giving 1600kcals per day in order to lose weight.

Other than that all i can suggest is you try & change your exercise routine to challenge your body as it adapts to activity and you will burn less calories than when you first started the routine.

Best of luck and maybe some more people reading this will have some more suggestions for you.

Hi,

Well done for deciding to make these changes for the better!

I wonder if your current exercise and food routines are working at cross purposes. When you are exercising the one thing you need to do is eat. 1200 calories is pretty low and the type of exercise you are doing is quite high intensity. You may also be overtraining. Rest is a super important part of a healthy exercise routine, you need to give you body time to rest and repair, doing too much can actually be bad for you. Maybe dropping a class or two might be useful.

What kind of things are you eating and how often? Eating 5 times a day might work better for you than the traditional 3 times a day - having a small meal or snack after a workout is important, one with a good mix of fat, carbohydrates and protein is recommended. Erm that's all I can think of without knowing more about what you're eating.
