Message: I have not had intercourse so I have not had a smear and I ignore all reminders. Have had some intimacy with a man so probably should have but not sure I could cope with it being done. I am too embarrassed to talk to my gp about it. Can a virgin cope with having examination?

Message:

As "most" but not all cervical cancer is caused by HPV which is sexually transmitted, you may actually be considered low risk..... ask your GP or practice nurse if you actually need a smear test or not..... they may say to wait until you're sexually active. I would imagine a smear being done now would be more painful for you than the average woman because your hymen is still in place.

Hope you seek advice soon

Message: I think I probably do not have a hymen as I use a moon-cup, judging by the initial pain and bleeding I had with that. I have researched whether a woman needs a smear if she has only been intimate but not had intercourse and it is inconclusive. Logically I suppose I should have the vaccine (tho' the chance of me actually seeing any action now are rather low, LOL). Too embarrassed to discuss it with GP, and discuss exactly what I did get up to in my very brief encounter.
