Hi all

Sorry, yet another Depo question from me!

I know that with any progestogen-only method there's a risk of erratic and prolonged breakthrough bleeding. However, my question relates to how long the bleeding can last and can it ease before/at the next injection?

I started Depo the day my lochia stopped (lochia lasted 6 weeks to the day following DS's birth), and had two weeks without bleeding. However, for the past 11 days I've had heavy and painful bleeding, much like that I experience during AF. It's showing no signs at all of easing up.

I'm prepared to put up with it if I know that it'll stop within a reasonable amount of time (which to me means before or at my next injection - it's just not practical with a 2 month old baby to have to keep rushing to the loo to change pads etc and try to deal with the pain, too!), but if it's likely to continue I'd rather chance another Mirena IUS (though still very nervous about something so invasive following my traumatic birth experience).

Previously on Depo I didn't have any bleeding at all, just some slight spotting if I left it 12 weeks between injections but was fine with an 11 week interval. So this is a completely different reaction I've had this time, though I appreciate it's now after I've had a baby.

Has anyone been on Depo, experienced heavy bleeding initially and found it's stopped at or before your 2nd injection? Or have you found, with bleeding like this, that it's set the tone for your time on Depo?

I've had it twice... the first time my AF's stopped altogether.... the second time i had bleeding non-stop for 6 months, so i didn't get a top up...... i would say it can be very hit and miss... all you can do is wait and see i think unfortunately :(.... but i would say the coil is worth a go if your body accepts it this time!!

Message: Thanks Nicki. I wouldn't be so fussed if it was just spotting but full on, heavy and painful AF-like bleeding isn't something I really want to put up with for longer than necessary IYSWIM, especially if it turns out I don't expel a Mirena this time around?!
