Hi, I hope there is someone out there. Yesterday my closest friend was diagnosed with breast cancer and she will have to have a mastectomy within the next two weeks (quite advanced). I don't know what to do for her. Yesterday we just sat and cried which is very selfish of me. what kind of things should i be doing , saying or not doing or saying. can someone help?

hi

I am sorry to hear about your friend.  My mum has breast cancer and had a masectomy a year ago, I can only tell you what we did to help her out othe rpeople here may be able to give you other advice t - in fact am sure they will.  the main thing is to be here for her be a shoulder to cry on or a sounding board when she needs it, try and stay positive we found that by us staying positive it helped mum, aslo post op she may need help with things around the house whil she recovers is she at home on her own? cook meals housework etc.  I think one of the things that mum appreciated was us trying to keep things "normal as posible" for her.

I think mum was lucky in the repect that she could keep a smile on her face and even eventually made jokes about her "fillet" etc.

Will she be having reconstruction? mum didnt but has some fab bras still feminine etc and unless you knew her you would never know what she has been through

I hope that her op is not too bad or her and wish her a speedy recovery

(((hugs))) to you too as friends and family find it hard to show how thye are feeling on front of the person

Thank you so much for advice. It's just going to be a tough time and i will be trying my best to carry out your suggestions. I don't know about re-construction i suppose it's too soon for her to think about that. I hope your mum is doing well. Thanks again
