I currently work for quite a small college, and in August we merged with a very large 'proper' college. I will be moving sites and will be based there.
I am an NVQ assessor, and my actual job role is to travel out and about and train people in their place of work. Since being in the wheelchair i'm not able to be because I can't get the wheelchair in and out of the car myself and have to rely on people to help me. I had an independent assessor sent out by Access to Work to look at my work area and to write a report recommending to them what needs to be changed/removed/put in to make it possible for me to work as easily as possible.
They are recommending automatic door openers, an altered layout within the office, and most importantly, some kind of lift to be installed in my car to lift the wheelchair in and out for me. This would enable me to do my job properly (which I love), but the best thing is i'll have independence again.
The only place I can ever go on my own is to the toilet, and even that's becoming rarer because Kya always wants to come and watch, lol. Just the ability to go to the shop on my own if I want to get something will be fantastic.
We've also recently ordered a brand new Ford Galaxy (on Motability), which will hopefully arrive at the end of December.
Just had to share, i'm so excited!
