I wonder if anyone can help me?

I'm nearly 35 weeks pregnant and I have an excruciating pain in my right ribcage. According to midwives its the uterus pushing the ribcage up and out and thus stretching the intercostal muscles. Whatever it is, its agony. The only comfortable position is lying down, which you will appreciate is no easy task when I have two pre-schoolers to run around after! Sitting down is awful, and even standing is now becoming increasingly painful.

Does anyone know which homeopathic remedy might work with this? Hubby is an acupuncturist and a physio but is wary of treating me while I'm pregnant.

Thanks in advance

Hi Nat

The only remedy I have seen for pain caused by straining the intercostal muscles (usually caused by trauma to the chest) is very high does of ibuprufen, which you want to avoid in pregnancy.

There are basic homeopathic remedies that can be bought 'over the counter' for things like travel sickness, insommnia, fever etc.  Rhus tox (30C) and Colocynthis (30c) are used for sciatic pain.  Devils Claw is a natural remedy for inflammation and Chamomile is a soother.  But just because they are 'natural' doesn't mean they are safe during pregnancy.  Homeopathy works best if you have a professional consultation when the remedy chosen will fit both the complaint and your holistic personality.

Hi there
Comgrats on the pregnancy. As the other poster has said it really is important that you are extra careful during pregnancy in regard to any medication. It would be worth you seeing a qualified homeopath though as there are some homeopathic remedies which are good from labour and dealing with post labour aches and pains, healing etc.

One of the remedies suggested for labour and post labour is Arnica but I really would be happier if you had a proper consultation :>
