Hi,

My names Gem, I have suffered with allergies since I was two years old, I am severely allergic to nuts (touch, taste & smell) and carry Epipens. I am allergic to egg but only if I eat it I will be very sick!

I had my son in May this year and since his birth have repeatedly asked GP to refer him to be tested as soon as he is old enough due to how severe mine are. Apparently it is 'not standard practice & not something they want to do' and would only test him if he had a reaction :@!!! Well too late then isn't it!!!!!

I recently saw another GP at the practice who said he would send a letter to peads to ask what they suggest, but I feel this is only being done to humour me and wont go any further.

It also doesn't help that I have PND so feel as if they am just thinking I am an over protective worried first time mum!!!!

Anyone else been in a similar situation?

xx

hi gem

sorry you feel so upset - i know exactly how you must be feeling. my LO holly had a whole list of allergies as a baby which thankfully 3 yrs on have all but disappeared!

the trouble with testing is that negative results really mean nothing, my DD tested negative to dairy yet she still got reactions from it at the time.

nuts is easy to avoid for a while yet for your LO - i assume you have nothing nutty in the house anyway. eggs again are easy enough to avoid for a while yet too. you won't be weaning for another couple of months anyway and even then theres plenty of things to feed jake without egg in.

i only found out holly reacted to egg when it touched her face - i used to rub it on her arm every few weeks after that to see if she'd grown out of it. once jake is into eating you could try rubbing the egg on his skin to start with.

i was a second time mum and was still frantic about it all so please don't feel bad - guilt goes hand in hand with being a mum i'm afraid lol
