Message: Hello,
Over the last couple of months I have noticed that my discharge has started smelling like....vinegar! Its not a potent vinegar smell but I get a slight wiff when I go to the toilet. My boyfriend said that he cant even notice the smell (we have been together 8 years so I know he's not fibbing). I have done some research on the web, but cant really find anything that is relevant. I know I dont have thrush because I've had that before. I dont get any other symptoms other than the smell. My discharge is a normal colour and normal consistency, so I dont know what it is. It cant be an STD, well at least not on my side(!) so perhaps I should go to the docs, I was just wondering if anyone else gets this too??
Thanks

Message: The normal vaginal bugs include bugs that make the vagina a bit acidic. I have never heard of a case of someone getting an acetic acid bug (vinegar) instead of the usual lactic acid bug, but I guess anything is possible.

You could try dipping a tampon in natural unsweetened yoghurt and wearing it for an hour or so, then remove it and re-do this daily for a week, it means then there is a supply of the usual bugs in a higher concentration which can replace the vinegar type one.

If this doesn't work, see what your doctor says

Message: Hiya,

Found this and thought it might be worth pondering :o)
I found it in 100 sex tips from Cosmo

100. Keep your diet bland
What you eat and drink hours before lovemaking strongly affects the way you both taste. Alcohol, garlic, saturated fats (like red meat), soy sauce and hot food give your secretions a bitter tang, while less spicy food produces a more neutral flavour. Sugar, on the other hand, will leave a sweet memory on the tongue.

Hope it's some use for you

Message: What my post was trying to say is that it maybe your diet causing you to 'smell'...if your DP hasn't noticed but you are still worried I'd see your GP or have a word with the nurse at the surgery

Message: I have heard eating citrus fruits can help with the smell and taste prior to love making. Also cinnamon is supposed to be good but don't know how much you need to eat for it to help and I presume it would need to be taken often to have long term effect.

Every woman is more concious of her smell than her partner. If unsure I agree with CL-Twinkle you should check with your doctor or nurse for reassurance.
