Message: Hi all,

I've not been on here before, so here goes.

I've noticed for the last year or so, ever since I stopped taking the pill, I sometimes get a tiny bit of blood in my pants, it's very dark, and usually light, although sometimes i've had to rush home to get a pad cos it was so much I though I was starting my period!!! At first I thought it was my body adapting to coming off the pill, but it is still happening, and I've been off the pill for longer than a year I think... I 've not been for a smear test, cos i'm too scared (never had one B4- am 21) I used to be very regular with my periods whaen I was younger, but since taking that blasted pill it's made them very irregular, sometimes i'm nearly 2 weeks early!

Anyway, I was wondering if this blood was a normal thing to happen? Don't talk to my Mum and only have a few femail mates.

Any responses appreciated,

Thanks alot,

Sarah

Message: Hi welcome to the board

What brand of the pill where you on so I can look up and see if there are any side affects listed for when you stop using it?

I have heard some types of hormanal contraception such as the injection can take up to two years to return to your normal cycle.

If you are sexually active you should have your smear test every three years, as you are having spotting it would be a good idea to get one done at your family planning clinic (which by the way can be more friendly and independent from your doctor if you are worried about him talking to your family) they runs hundreds of tests everyday and are great at put you at ease. Also every woman over 21 is invited for a smear test every three years so you should get a letter soon for one.

In this link http://messageboards.ivillage.co.uk/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-ukhlhealth&msg=3415.1&ctx=4096 there is loads of info on having your smear done and why you need it have a read and let me know if you have any more questions

Sarah
