Message: I can't sleep. Listening to music makes me day dream about things I want. Doesn't matter what it is, anything will do. Otherwise i'll spend hours looking at the same place.

Hi Matilda

We've chatted already on the Coping With Depression board. You really are having a tough time. Do you manage to get any sleep at all?

Hi, thanks for your reply. I do get sleep. Its fragmented, I wake alot and have bad dreams. I "sleep in" until noon, early afternoon but I still feel tired. I get up only because I don't want to stay in bed. Sometimes I have laid in bed for a couple of days but not because I am ill. I have tried to get into a normal sleep pattern for ages. I think once I get a job it should settle down.

Hi vicky

A lot of people who are depressed/anxious stay in bed during the day as it is just to much effort to get up. Not a good idea though. If you are struggling to sleep it is better to get into a routine. Get "settled" in bed at a fixed time, have warm drinks in a flask to have during the night if you wish, then get up at a fixed time even if you haven't slept.

Doesn't always work of course. I was awake a lot in the night , eventually dropped of at about 5 then slept until 9.

As you say though, once you have a job, things will improve for you.

hugs
