Hi All.

I am 53 and have had several years of awful periods which are due to fibroids and am told that they will shrink as the oestrogen levels decrease during menopause and as the average age is 51 apparently I have been assuming that I am there or thereabouts.  Over the last year the periods have become erratic but just as bad when I have one, this irrgularity has reinforced my feeling that I must be perimenopausal.  I have an assortment of symptoms which could just as easily be blamed on old age (eg aches and pains) and depression, mood swings, anxiety which are just as likely to be down to stress and tiredness (my job is a complete nightmare)  I think it is just a guessing game as to whether I am having menopausal symptoms or not and one day my periods will stop and then I will know for sure!  One thing I have noticed though is that I am a lot warmer in general (normally I am always cold)  especially at night.  Not sweating or anything and no sign of the bright red faces and puring sweat that I read about but just feeling warm (sometimes hot) all the time.

Should I assume this to be hot flushes and should I take anything or should I wait until it becomes an issue?

Hi Fliss,

nice to 'see' you again.

Yes, sounds like you are definitely perimeopausal. Hot flushes vary from person to person, ranging from soaking sweats to merely feeling warm. Ofetn they start mild then build up but sometimes they stay mild, it varies and all are normal :-)

Hope you are doing well otherwise.
