Well saw my GP yesterday and, as expected, he issued me with the Orlistat so back on regime today which will help not only with the remaining 1 1/2 stone weight but also with the insulin resistence.

Hiya,

Have you been on Orlistat before?  If so how did you manage with it, with a low fat diet etc.  I was prescribed it a few months ago but so far have not started taking it, have lost some weight without it, definately not the target I am supposed to be, I am now thinking maybe I should start taking it as I have to go back to the consulant that prescribed it in Jan and he's a right old bugger.  I am trying to work out a proper low fat diet, I don't overeat and I tend to miss meals so any tips you can give me would be great, I want to avoid all the side effects.  I am going to see a Health Advocacy that I got some leaftlets from yesterday who will help with some tips etc but ideally anything from someone who is also taking it would be a great help, if you were on it before if you don't mind me asking how much did you lose??

Many thanks

Sara

Hi

Not a problem.

I took Orlistat for 2 1/2 years and lost 5 stone on it (alongwith metformin and thyroxine for the under active thyroid).  Just had a 3 month break off it but specialist thinks I still need it for my insulin resistance.  I rate it although you must stick to a low fat diet otherwise the side effects are horrendous.  Missing meals is a big no no as you need to take it with your meal three times a day although I would recommend starting off using it with lunch and dinner first then adding breakfast.  Also if you have a totally fat free meal then dont take it as it will have no effect.
