Hi Girls a liitle advice would help me here, I am having period pains 11 days into my cycle I stopped losing blood 4 days ago and had some discomfort at start of cycle but am confused as to why am having them now !! my periods have chnaged as of late too , my cycle is longer and at the start there is no blood loss just a smear or so then next few days very heavy then nothing it just all stops!! I am a little worried as have a history in our family of cancer my first ever smear was abnormal and I have a colposcopy within 2 weeks of having the smear but everything clear since , but my mother had cervical cancer (to start with) she passed away with secondaries, my auntie had breaset cancer nad passed away, mu grandmother passed away due to cancer as did another auntie and my uncle also has terminal cancer, my sister too had a colposcopy after her first smear so I am a little anxious and worried about going to see the doc as dont really want to hear anythin bad!!1 any ideas girls?? Hi Karen, Pains midcycle can often be contributed to ovulation pain and as we approach middle age (yucky idea) our periods do change, for some women they get lighter, for some heavier with clotting and the length of our cycles can change too. The only way to be sure your changes are normal is to go and see your doctor honey, scary as it is, it is the best thing to do.At our age (I'm 40) and with multiple pregnancies behind us our sexual health is not something to take chances with, especially with your family history. The sooner you go the sooner you will know if your worrying over nothing or if there is a cause to be concerned, and if there is cause, all the sooner to get it sorted out before it becomes a big problem. Pern xx

Hi again Karen well your gp sounds like she could do with a course on customer relations!! I'm assuming from your post that all she did was write the 'script and not actually talk to you about it? It's all well and good for her to say these things, but what she should have done was have a proper chat with you about the condition, then any doubts you have could have been bought up and either explained or further investigated. This webpage may help answer some of your questions honey, and help you decide if she is right or if you need further investigation (with a different doctor possibly?) http://www.womenshealthlondon.org.uk/leaflets/pid/pid.html Just a thought, if she wants you to take antibiotics for this, it would be worth while for you to be drinking something like Yakult everyday to help prevent thrush (this is standard practice at my local hospital for anyone woman on antibiotics) Pern xx
