Hi there.

I am new to i-village so very new to posting really but wondered if any of you could help?

I am 17 years old and for the past 5 months if not longer i have had severe period pain every month. its beginning to get me down now. i have tried every medicine i could think of and hot baths and hot water bottles and the heat pads everything but nothing seems to work. I have thought about trying co-codamol and see if that works, have any of you tried it?
I am aneamic though so no 100% sure if its safe to take it, does anyone know?

Thanks in advance for your help

Hi Pink-petal,

Any medication with ibuprofen in it will help relieve period pain. There are other brands of pain relief for cramps such as Feminax that you can buy over the couter.

I suffered bad cramps when i was a teenager but I went on the pill and it helped regulate my periods and reduced the cramps, hopefully the ibuprofen will be enough though. Click on the link below.

Hi petal,

Dysmenorrhea (painful periods) more often than not has no cause, but stress and/or a lack of exercise can be contributing factors. Has your life style changed in the last five months?

In addition to the pills recommended by cool girl, you should also go along to your GP for a chat, as the contraceptive pill may be the best answer to your problem. (and although it is very unlikely, there is a small chance that this sudden onset of period pains may have an organic cause which needs to be investigated.)

Please post again to let us know how your doing.

Pern xx
