Hello,

This is a complicated one but please hear me out because I really would like some advice where to take my career.

I am currently a university student, 2nd yr physiotherapy student with only 1 yr to go. I also have 3 retakes in a few weeks because I failed 3 modules in my last set of exams. Now I don't think I'm stupid and the reason I'm failing uni is because the assessment formats and tutors marking are incosistent. I'm not sure if I retake them that I will pass next time either. I'm only doing physiotherapy because I want to take an animal physiotherapy course which I have to have the human degree first, so I don't even want to be a physio as such. On top of that I have my own business as a wedding planner to help fund me through uni, unfortunately this isn't making enough money to live on but then in my current situation I can't put my full time and money into it.

I hate my course but I don't feel like I can leave because I don't have the financial setup to lose my uni funds and I will feel like a failure. I also have the mindset that I want to set myself up with a career so if I change I want to go into a long term career, and I have no idea what to do with my life. I was considering taking up art but that means taking another uni course which I won't get into for another two yrs and if I complete the physio degree I won't get funding or a second degree. I don't mind studying but university has knocked all confidence out of me and I also don't know exactly what I want to study. ideally I would like to do some kind of training on the job.

So with all of this I'm stressed beyond beleif int hat I don't like where I am but don't know where I wanna be and I'm too scared to do anyting that isn't set in concrete.

HELP!!

Hello Jes and welcome to the board,
I didn't really know much about this so I found something on the net which you probably already know but nevertheless I will post for you just in case there is something in it that you weren't aware of.

http://www.connexions-direct.com/jobs4u/index.cfm?pid=49&catalogueContentID=250

That showed that there was an alternative to having to train as a human physiotherapist in order to work as an animal physiotherapist and that the work is hard with heavy lifting involved.

So I looked for an alternative to both while still working with animals and found this site which may help you.

http://www.animal-job.co.uk/Careers-With-Animals.html

Within the above there was this :-
Animal Care Courses and Training
http://www.animal-job.co.uk/online-animal-care-courses.html

These might help guide you into another avenue in a similar field, one that is less demanding of your time now and your stamina later.

I looked for what might be out there to help with a career change, possibly working with animals or possibly not and found this.

http://www.acareerchange.co.uk/changing-career-working-animals.html

You can do your own search in the above for anythng that takes your fancy and find out more about it.

I think some of the above had phone numbers where you could get further advice and information and they might have more knowledge than me on your options from where you are at right now.

What I do know is that if you aren't happy right now and you continue to be stressed then you risk it turning into depression due to the way long term stress lowers our levels of serotonin.

Maybe you could find a part time course that would enable you to develop your Wedding Planning business to bring in more funding.

You're always welcome here to offload and if I can help I will do whatever I can.
If there is anything you feel you might be interested in, even remotely, I will see what I can find on the subject for you.

Hugs

Hi Jes,
Getting the strength to change won't be easy while you're sinking into depression. You might start to feel that you need to try harder to overcome the way you're feeling and this will only drain your energy more.

Is much against the grain as it feels, it really is best if you can include time to relax and switch off but you might be already at the stage of needing a bit of extra help.

If you aren't on the pill, breastfeeding or spending a lot of time in the sun then you could try St John's Wort, which is the most prescribed medication in Europe for mild cases of depression.

Feeling that things are happening outside of your control will increase your stress so if you can think of anything to take back some control it should help you feel a bit better.
