Last Sunday afternoon Mum had a fall and broke her hip. She had to go to hospital and she had an operation on Tuesday evening which lasted four hours with an hour in recovery afterwards.

I have been going back and to with visiting and getting things that she needs in between times. Had to cancel her appointments and day care too.

She is doing really well. She was even able to take a few steps yesterday with the physiotherapists and her blood tests are all good.

I'll be seeing her again later today and again this evening.

It has been a very worrying and stressful time. It was reassuring to see her looking so good yesterday.

When she fell the ambulance couldn't come for an hour and we were told not to move her although we didn't know at that stage what had happened, she did tell me that the pain was worse than usual.

Apparently she keeps calling for me in the hospital and I know she wants to come home with me every time I leave but she's not at all miserable now that she's pretty much out of pain.

The hardest part was seeing her in absolute agony and not being able to do anything to help her.

I should be able to be about more now that things are more settled.

Hugs

Oh no, I'm really sorry to hear that Owly. It must have been horrible and stressful for you and your mum. :-( Very glad to hear that she's making a good recovery.

P.S. Did the alarm go off as it should?

Message: Hi Owly. So sorry to hear about your Mum-what a worry for you. You're not having a very good year are you? Positive thoughts for 2010! I'm glad she's up and gradually taking steps,it's amazing how quickly they get patients up on their feet afterwards. Sending you and Mum all my best wishes;remember to look after yourself too, and don't run yourself ragged!! Take care,Love Jillyxx

Hi ALU,
It was more stressful than I realised. I realised how much it had affected me when I was on my own later. I couldn't drive home straight away and sat in my car in the car park for about an hour to get things out of my system and be in a fit state to drive.

She's doing really well but hates it when I leave at the end of visiting time. She wants to come home with me and tries to get up. I'll be seeing her this afternoon but think I'll have a break this evening and try and get things done at home.

I'm still in the process of decorating which had to be put on hold when all this happened.

Mum had her alarm on but she had got outside again and fell out there. The ambulance took an hour to arrive so she was getting quite cold and we'd been told not to move her. Someone from a nearby house brought her a blanket and someone from the house opposite brought out something that might have been able to slide underneath her but she was in too much pain to move. I took them boxes of chocolate covered biscuits yesterday to say thanks for doing what they did.

Have been told she will be in for another week yet. She has an ulcer on her leg so they are sorting that out and I might also be getting more help to monitor her diabetes. I told them that Mum's support had lapsed once she became less mobile and not able to attend the local hospital so much. So they are going to see about Mum being visited by a district nurse which I am over the moon about as I always felt like I was having to take on far more responsibility than I was trained for.

Hugs

Hi Jilly,
I didn't sleep at all on the night after it had happened. Every time I put my head down it would fill up with images from the day along with worries and doubts and I knew I just had to distract myself so I was doing washing and playing on the pc.

It's not been a very good year has it. Let's hope we're getting everything out of the way in one go.

It is amazing how fast they get the patients up isn't it, I thought that. Couldn't believe it but it seems to be doing the trick. Haven't seen her walk but she was in the chair by her bed when I went to visit her yesterday.

I'm going to see her in a minute but will have tonight off. It's just draining me too much. I might start going once a day instead of twice a day. Mum is starting to want to come home with me after each visit.

Hugs and thanks for thinking of us.
