Last Sunday afternoon Mum had a fall and broke her hip. She had to go to hospital and she had an operation on Tuesday evening which lasted four hours with an hour in recovery afterwards.

I have been going back and to with visiting and getting things that she needs in between times. Had to cancel her appointments and day care too.

She is doing really well. She was even able to take a few steps yesterday with the physiotherapists and her blood tests are all good.

I'll be seeing her again later today and again this evening.

It has been a very worrying and stressful time. It was reassuring to see her looking so good yesterday.

When she fell the ambulance couldn't come for an hour and we were told not to move her although we didn't know at that stage what had happened, she did tell me that the pain was worse than usual.

Apparently she keeps calling for me in the hospital and I know she wants to come home with me every time I leave but she's not at all miserable now that she's pretty much out of pain.

The hardest part was seeing her in absolute agony and not being able to do anything to help her.

I should be able to be about more now that things are more settled.

Hugs

Message: Hi Owly, sorry to hear about your mum, but it's reassuring that she is on the mend.  You should maybe try to take advantage of having the house to yourself (for however short a time you're actually in it with all the rushing around!) and just SIT or have a relaxing bath.  That way, when your mum comes home again you'll be more refreshed to cope with things.  Even if you can't manage that I'm thinking of you - hopefully the vibes will help!

Hi GG,
It was so good to see her after her operation as before then I had been worrying about it but not liking seeing her in pain. I knew it had to be done but wasn't sure how she would take to such a long operation. It was four hours.

You'd think I'd have more time wouldn't you but I am getting ready in the morning to go to see her at 3pm and then I stay out near the hospital so that I can see her again at 7 and then I get home about half eight and have something to eat and the day is over.

I feel like I have less time. Plus I'm going shopping to get her things to eat or read so she can pass the time better.

I am having this evening off though because I just can't keep that up. My Brother and SIL are going on Monday evening so I'll get a break then too.

Once I have everything sorted out I should be able to relax more then.

It was awful when she first fell and then was in A&E for a while. She was suffering from shock and was in absolute agony until they gave her morphine and even then it wasn't enough so they had to give her more.

Thank you for the vibes, everything helps and it's been draining so any rest time I can get the better. I seem to fall asleep the minute I sit down.

Hugs and thanks
