There's been a lot in the media this past week about BGT and the whole Susan Boyle thing - just wondered what your thoughts all were?

Personally, I'm not a fan of BGT at all. I do watch other reality type shows like X factor and Big Bro but there's something about BGT that makes me uncomfortable. Firstly it seems to be a bit of a freak show with a lot of the "entertainment factor" centered on mocking those poor deluded people who come on and make complete and utter fools of themselves! Secondly, I am concerned about pitching adults against children in the same competition - the bottom line is that however self assured an 8 year old might appear they (generally) simply don't have the emotional or life skills to cope with that type of pressure and rejection.

Which I guess brings me onto the whole Susan Boyle thing. I am relieved she didn't win - I think if she had, the show would have created a monster. I suspect Simon Cowell feels the same way and can't help but wonder if some of the negative press of the last week (which clearly influenced the final vote) was engineered in some way?! She again simply didn't seem to have the necessary skills or support to cope with the pressure.

I hope that there are some lessons learned from this series

I was sad but not at all suprised to see on the news this morning that Susan Boyle has now been admitted to a clinic and is being assessed under the Mental Health Act.

Proves my point I guess.

Hi Fi,

I did watch BGT and have to admit I loved it lol!  But I am an addict of reality tv shows I am afraid.

I did think Susan was amazing at her first audition but I think the world wide coverage just got a bit too big for her.  As we know the press are great at 'bigging' somebody up one minute and taking them down the next.  Which is what they did with Susan.

I am glad she didn't win and I think she handled coming second very graciously.

I did always think she was a bit unstable and I guess it all got a bit much for her.  I actually feel a bit sorry for her really.

I am sure love or loathe them reality tv shows are hear to stay!
