This is a bit of a controversial issue atm because of this man's release back to his own country, but I need to ask "Are we sure he's even guilty?".
I'll put my hands up and say that I wasnt very aware of the details of this case because I was only 7 when this horrible incident occurred, and since the news reports recently brought the matter up again I've been using our wonderful 21st century tool Google to look into it a bit more, especially as he still claims his innocence.
The only reason I raise the question is because of some of the scottish victims families believing the wrong man was convicted. And they're angry that possibly someone is basically being used as a scapegoat and no further investigations are done because of this.
Whether he's guilty or innocent, are we a society that *need* to apportion blame for something to be able to move on, and Im not even talking about anyone directly involved in losing someone as tragically as the lockerbie bombing, I include the general public in this. Whether it's government leaders, community leaders, celebrities(!), more recently the speaker in the house of commons, the powers that be seem very quick to assign blame and deal with that individual by making an example out of them (jail them, sack them, force a resignation) and it all seems to be for our benefit.
Personally when something big happens, like a bombing, here or in the USA and I hear in the news that they've arrested an individual, it doesnt make me breathe any easier. The magnitude of these situations makes me think that dozens of ppl are involved and because a government has found one person to pin it on, they wont try to hard to find anyone else. Cynical, I know!!!!!
Any views on this? (hope i havent offended anyone, it wasnt my intention.) Eve xx
