Hi,
I have been privately renting a property now for almost 4 years. This is through an agent.
Every time something has gone wrong the landlord has usually got it fixed quite soon as his father lives locally so he usually gets him to come and sort things. But since the early part of the year when something has needed fixing he has not really seemed bothered in getting it fixed. In April this year part of a double glazed window fixing on the outside of the house fell off and all it needed was someone to use some sealant to fix it back on, i reported this in April and it took until August to get it fixed, the staff in the estate agents said they had spoken to the landlord about it 3 times but still nothing seemed to happen, it was only when i asked if their maintenance guy could come and sort it that it got fixed in the end.
Now my kitchen window has jammed shut, i reported it almost 2 weeks ago and the agents say they have spoken to the landlord but still no one has got back to me yet. Fair enough i don't expect things to be fixed right away but i know that the landlord legally has a responsibility to repair things in a reasonable time and going by how long i waited last time i am beginning to wonder how long this new repair will now take to get done and indeed how long is a reasonable amount of time in which to expect something to be fixed?
Also its quite stressful having to keep following up faults and waiting and waiting and still not hearing back.
I am getting worried as just over a year ago the landlord got in contact and told me he was considering selling the property but he changed his mind in the end but said he might think of it again in a couple of years and i am wondering if his sudden lack of interest in getting repairs done could be because he is planning to sell up soon?
