Each of us is following her/his own path through life which might or might not involve a religion or a spiritual idea. Even those adherants to a very specific belief system (for example Christianity or Judaism) are likely to hold a particular set of views that is unique.

It is commonly thought though that the individual continues on this unique path throughout life. I have heard this experience described as being like a tree. The trunk is common to all humanity and we all start off in the same place. As the tree moves upwards though it divides up into branches and then on into smaller branches and then to the tiniest twigs. Our personal spritual path  divides up in the same way. If you think of the average tree the branches and twigs often tangle together. Again this is like the individual spiritual path where we can move across from one section to another, finding the best ideas and life style for us.

Of course this spiritual path does not have to be linked to a particular religion. Many very spiritual people would claim not to belong to a religious group.

Complicated? Yes it can be. But the trick is to allow ourselves to keep discovering new things. Not being afraid to reject what is wrong for us and being thrilled when we find something that leads us further along the journey.

Following on from trying to understand our unique spiritual path, it does help if we make an effort to learn more about the whole range of religious beliefs that are around - more than every these days by the look of it.

This is a link where you can learn the basics of many of them:

Message: Thanks for the posts Tabbs, really helpful. I'll let you know what happens next week at my Retreat, I think its going to be quite awesome spiritually and several other ways too. I'm struggling to find my path, but hopefully I will next week, I have a good feeling about it. I'm going to take my tarot and angel cards, not sure if I'll need them, but think I should, I feel like a kid about to go on a new adventure. I'll miss everyone though.

Hi Free

Good idea to take your Tarot and angel cards.

You really shouldn't be struggling to find your path. just let it happen and enjoy the experience. Although I describe myself as a Wiccan Solitaire I don't get hung up on "rules" with things like acknowledging the god and goddess. I just use what is important to me. When the depression is bad I have been know to forget to celebrate the Sabbats.

One thing I have found to be helpful is to work out what I definitely don't want to believe. In an all powerful monotheist god for example. That doesn't mean I reject the idea of something "other" in terms of spiritual power though.

I look forward to hearing all about the retreat when you come back.

Hi Tabbs,

I don't get hung up with the rules either. My path is my path, if you see what I mean.
