Hi guys, a long time no see!!!

Hope you are all well....

Sorry to be a bit off topic, and slightly disgusting, but does anyone have any ideas of how we can stop the whole neighbourhoods cats pooing on our garden...

Its getting so annoying, we used to have such a lovely front lawn, but its now nearly dead, where they have weed and pooed, and it has big holes in where they have dug it up...we're just getting so fed up of having to come home from a long day at work to clear it all up...

We've just ordered some Lion Poo from the internet as apparently making the cats think there is a bigger beast around makes them poo somewhere else (not convinced tbh) but short of getting a trap, we just dunno what to do...

Its such a shame, cos we really like cats...we just wish they would poo somewhere else!!!

Thanks in advance for any advice

hi Sue,

in our old house we had this problem, about 10 local cats used our garden all the time. literally just coming in doing their business and going.

they never tried to bury it, just left it. i tried all the pellets and sprays avaliable from the garden centre, but as soon as it rained we were back to square one. i did think about getting one of those sonic wave things that are meant to help but they are £20.00 and i wasnt sure that it would work. ive also known someone have one for wild rabbits and it hurt my ears as i could here the frequency.

we really considered getting a dog, but i couldnt see how it would actually help, one side we had a greyhound the other a labradore and something else at the bottom, and they still braved our garden.

before we moved in, the garden was really overgrown and there wasnt any lawn so i think cats had got used to useing it and wernt bothered. we tried digging the ground and laying a lawn, but that got covered. the kids couldnt play out in the end because it was that bad.

we tried pepper, commercial products, throwing stones close to the cat to scare them (never at the cat andd never hit them) just on the path to create a bang, spreying with water, they just seemed immune. the other problem was the garden was 30ft wide and 90ft long so anything didnt cover the whole of the area.

i hope you find a solutiion, and sorry i havent been able to give any hope

Hi Sue,

afaik all the commercially available products work for a bit but then stop. It is true that they don't like certain smells though so things like citrussy smells, garlic and curry plant keep them away. Failing that get a cat of your own.

That's all I can think of - you have hit on the one animal I can't stand I'm afraid!

Message: We bought a Cat Watch ultrasonic deterrent - we've had a problem with a strip of gravel between the front of our house and next door, leading to a hazardous step into the car each morning. Since we got a new cat there's been poos there at least daily (though I maintain they are not all her's) and so far so good.
Expensive, but the time we were spending clearing up and also worrying about next door's kids - it was worth it. Fingers crossed it keeps working.
Of course, only happy to use this at the front of the house, as the cats access to our house is via the back door.
Good luck!
