Hi

Just popped over from another board...

Our dog was neutered last May and she started spotting a couple of weeks ago.  I took her to the vet and they said she had cystitis so was given antibiotics for it.  She spotted again a few days later so I took her back and saw a different vet who said they had a case last year where the vet didnt remove all of the ovaries so the dog carried on having seasons.  They now think she has been in season and has some ovarian tissue left behind.  They want to wait and see if she comes in to season next year.

Has anyone else heard of cases like this?  Im not sure I want her opened up again to remove it.  We also spent a lot of money on the original neuter and more recently on the cystitis that never was.

Im interested to see if anyone has come across this before.

Thanks

Tammy

Hi. This is rare, but can happen if part of an ovary is left behind, or if the dog has ectopic ovarian tissue (hormone producing tissue somewhere else apart from the ovaries)
There are hormone stimulation tests that could be performed to see if she is producing any female hormones. Her womb will have been removed as part of the spay, so you won't have to worry about her getting pregnant, but if she does have 'seasons' that is going to be annoying.
I'd talk to your vet again. If it's a complication of surgery they might be prepared to make some concessions on any costs involved.
