Hi girls,

I have this morning fed my LO and noticed that towards the end she started to get fussy, touched my breast and it is very engorged at the top (usually my breasts are absolutely empty at the end). I tried expressing and applying a warm wet cloth but it is still there and I really wouldn't want it to develop into anything nasty. I wonder if any of you had this and could suggest something to relieve the engorgment/not let the blocked duct develop into mastitis??

thanks, G xx

Hiya hon

I had a blocked duct a few weeks ago and it was not nice!!  Firstly, are you in any pain?  And secondly, are there are red patches on your breast?

I was told by my HV to massage the lumpy hard part of my boob inwards towards my nipple, take a hot shower and apply a hot cloth (as you have already done).  Oh, and feed, feed, feed from that side!!!

If none of this works, then speak to your HV on Monday.  It didnt work for me and I needed antibiotics which cleared it up no problem.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi Lu,

Thanks for your reply. I think I managed to unblock it. During our second feed this morning I noticed there was a white little blister on my nipple (TMI!!!) and as i pierced it milk started to flow and as my LO carried on feeding the engorgement went down - thank god!! Before the feed it started to get pretty painful to the touch and uncomfortable when my arm went against it on the side. Now it feels a little bruised as I'd been rubbing it so hard to get milk to flow lol. Hope the blister is going to go now and the engorgement doesn't come back, will see how it goes.

a relieved G xx
