Hi everyone,

was just wondering if anybody knew why health services in some countries prescribe vitamin D to be given to babies but UK doesn't?

Been on holiday to Croatia and apparently all babies there are taking vitamin D supplements, and it's not like they haven't got enough sun over there.

Thanks,
Emville

Message: Hi from what I have seen and heard is that Vitamin D helps your baby's body absorb calcium, which is needed for the healthy development of strong bones and teeth. As you say the best sorce of getting this is the sun. In the u.k, vitamin D supplements are given only to at- risk babies i.e
  • darker pigmented skin
  • premature birth
  • vitamin D deficiency in a breastfeeding mother
  • lead exposure
  • offering babies low-calcium foods in place of breast milk
  •

Hope this is of some help to you
