My 10wk old is being BF using Avent bottles & teats. We're currently using no.2 slow flow teats, but i wonder whether it would do any harm to move him on to no.3 variable flow teats slightly early? The recommended age is 3 months, but after observing my son's feeding habitats it seems that he's getting fed up with receiving very little milk for a lot of hard work so much so that he's no longer finishing his bottle.

Hello again,
I paid little attention to the suggested age on the teats. My DD used a variety of teats throughout her time using bottles and throughout the day. I ended up getting those variable ones so I could judge her need for milk and her energy at the time and adjust the milk flow accordingly. It may well be worth a try and see if your DS gets more with a different teat and with the variable ones you can still go back to the no.1 teat if you need to.

I hope that helps slightly.

Katie

It would be good to hear from you though. x

Sorry for the late reply my LO has been keeping me busy! We decided to change the teat size, and things have started to improve although i would be happier if he were taking on a little more at each feed. He's putting on weight, and seems to be more contented but still does not sleep through the night. Sam is 12 weeks, but was born prematurely so i have to keep reminding myself of his calculated age instead of his actual age. I'm sure we'll get some sleep soon!

Many Thanks

Message: Hi glad to hear things have improved. The age for use of teats is a suggested one but you have to do what you think works in the best interest of your baby. As for the sleep - well I guess that will come! x
