Hi

I have a one week old baby who is on cow and gate using Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature bottles and teats.  There is a small hole in the teat to release air.  We have 6 bottles and teats on the go and some of them seem to invert while baby is sucking, iykwit?  ie baby sucking and nipple bit of teat goes right into bottle.  Anyone come across this and knows why it is happening and if I need to worry or do anything about it?

Maybe we just need to clean the air hole more thoroughly as it's maybe getting slightly blocked on one or two of the teats?

Hope this makes sense.

Many thanks

Julie, Ellie (2) and Isla (8 days!) x

Hi Julie,

congratulations on your little one and welcome to the board.

My only experience of the CTN bottles was recently when I was looking after a friend's baby. I remember being confused about why he wasn't able to get anything out of them until I realised the valve had to be directly below his nose. I didn't notice the teat inverting but I'll ask around and see if anyone else has experience of it. Have you tried the Tommee Tippee website or their customer care line?

Katie

HI there, congrats on the baby!

We have used these CTN bottles and teats since Matthew was born, fussy baby wouldnt take anything else! I cant say any of mine inverted while he was sucking but I think if its just some of yours, and you are using all the same size of teat, ie they are all size 1's, then Id be tempted to think there is something wrong with them.

If she was ready for size 2 then possibly they would all be inverting. As you say give them an extra good clean then use them again and if its still happening I would call TT's helpline. Ive always found them to be fab. Had free stuff from them loads!

PS Sorry for leaving my CL on!

Hi!

Thanks very much for the advice, I think it is either just a duff teat or the hole needs cleaned better!  They are all size 1's.  They are good bottles, although lids very difficult to remove, especially for DH who bites his nails!  If have any more bother will call helpline, thank you.

Take care

Hi!

Thanks very much for the advice, I think it is either just a duff teat or the hole needs cleaned better!  Yes, we have been putting hole under her nose, she has been really hungry this past day so maybe just sucking extra hard!

If have any more bother will call helpline, thank you for your help.

I googled the problem last night and others had problems with the teats inverting/collapsing, some said to loosen the lid (tried but only helped a little).

Thanks again.

Take care
