Hello ladies!

I am due my first in a couple of months and am very excitedly getting together all my nappy bits and bobs.

I got some tester reusables from the council the other day - motherease and littlelamb I believe - and was surprised how big they are,.  They are meant to be useable for a newborn but am not so sure...

I wonder how did you get on with using reusables on a newborn?  They seem so bulky.  I was thinking about using muslins for the start instead, popping in a fleece liner and booster if necessary, pinning them together and then putting a wrap over the top?  What do you think of this? (am having a boy btw, if that makes any difference!)

Thanks, and hope to get to know you all better once LO arrives!

x J

re muslins I intend to do just that (though probably without either booster or liner). I have size 1 nappies too which I will probably use but I expect that at least to start with muslins or even my thin terries will fit better and dry a darn site quicker.

hi!  we used easy-peasy bambeasy which were quite bulky (but cute - she looked like the fairy baby!) but a good fit.  tbh, the wraps were more of a problem, next time i'll get a few newborn wraps. we also used muslins a few times, they work v well for tiny newborn wees.  the butterfly fold worked best for us but there's a few on here...

Congratulations on you soon to be new arrival.
My dd went into cloth on day 2 (day one we were in hospital), I'd bought a couple of Imse Vimse plus a newborn wrap (I also bought a prem wrap because they'd said she was going to be small) both worked great, no leaks and slim fiting. I also had some blueberry minki's which although expensive and bulky when on fit great, plus an itti bitti which was slim although I'm having leak issues with that but as a tiny newborn it coped fine.

My daughter was 6lb7oz and dropped to 6lb 3 but she's been in cloth all day and we've had very few leaks, although some of my pocket nappies are wicking on the edges due to her very skinny legs.

I have a little lamb but it's still a bit big and really bulky, Allanah's now 8lb 8.5oz and fits much better in most nappies including the tots bots bamboozle and flexitots (with an imse vimse wrap because the tots bots wraps leak).

The Imse Vimse nappy just wraps around and then you use the wrap to hold it in place so I should imagine you could use a muslin the same way,

Hiya,

I used washables on my little boy from 2 weeks old (I needed those first couple of weeks to get myself together and not have to worry about the washing). I used muslins in the kite fold with a Motherease Rikki wrap in Extra Small, then when he was about 4/5 weeks old we needed the extra absorbency so moved onto terry squares - I found that they worked better in the 'poo catcher' fold as this gives you all the thickness at the front - then I needed the Rikkis in Small or Medium to fit comfortably over the top. These have been absolutely leak-proof so far. Obviously Nappi-Nippas are an essential if you go for folded nappies

Good luck with the new arrival,

Dexy
