Hi Jen et al
I'll try to answer the questions you have
1) Liners - I have some Little Lambs microfibre nappies that came with a microfibre liner and a fleece liner. Is the fleece liner only for if I'm not using a paper liner? Do I need any further liners/boosters? Do I need to pre-wash the liners, or is it only the nappies that I need to pre-wash?
Liners don't need prewashed as prewashing is to make the nappy absorbant, the liner just allows liquid to pass through and keep the bum dry. You *could* use just the microfibre nappy if you want but I try to always pair it with a liner (either paper or fleece) as it makes poo a *lot* easier. I used a fleece blanket cut up as liners and had about the same amount as I did nappies. I would say have the same amount of liners as nappies just to keep washing simple (although obviously if you are using paper this doesn't matter). I would only recommend boosters when your baby is sleeping for longer periods at night or not pooing during the night, you might then want to keep the same nappy on. At the moment my DS wears a bamboozle with a popper in booster (that comes with the nappy) then an additional bamboo booster to increase absorbancy. I doubt you'd need this with a younger baby due to frequent changes.
2) Pailing - I've seen a couple of people on here mentioning dry pailing using tea tree oil. How do you add the oil? Is it a few drops in to the bottom of the bucket before adding the used nappies, or is the oil put on to something like a cloth which is then put in the bucket?
I tend to rinse out my bucket with the shower when I put a wash on then stick a few drops of oil into the bottom of the bucket. You could add a few each day to keep it smelling a bit fresher. A good tip I've heard is to stick a breastpad in the lid of the bucket then add oil to that to keep the smell lasting longer.
3) Poo's - I keep reading on nappy sites that with poos you just need to stretch the fleece liner over the toilet and the poo drops in, but surely that's not the case for newborn poo, especially for a BF baby? So, do I need to rinse the liner first to get off any excess poo before putting it in the bucket, or does it just go straight in?
Poo should drop in probably post 6 months when baby is on solids, but you're right before then it will need rinsed. Initially I didn't realise this and just stuck everything in the bucket then washed *cringe*. Cue little bits of poo all over my washing! I always use a liner for this reason, try to grab a non poo covered corner of the liner, stick the whole thing in the loo then flush. Give it a wiggle/shake while the water runs over it. Sometimes I rinse any leftover off in the sink. Sounds a bit up close and personal but you do get used to it. I give relatives paper liners so it can just be flushed away as it is easier, not as nice on their skin though.
4) Resisting temptation - Seriously, how on earth do you not just go mad and keep buying nappies!? I *think* that I have all the nappies I need (10 x Little Lambs microfibre, 4 x Tots Bots original cotton, 3 x OS AIO Wonderoos, 3 x OS AIO Fuzzi Bunz, 7 x Mother-Ease rikki wraps & 2 x Tots Bots fleece wraps), but I just can't help looking for and wanting more and coming up with reasons to justify getting more, and baby isn't even here yet, lol!
Haha - if anyone knows the answer to this one then let me know! I did go through a stage at first of buying loads but now I've minimised my supply, I think because I know I won't get a load of use out them now before potty training so it's not worth it for me. You however have no excuse since a new baby will have lots of time in the lovely nappies! ´*•.¸(*•.¸?¸.•*´)¸.•*´ ?«´¨`•°x.Natalie and Aidan.x°•´¨`»? .¸.•*(¸.•*´?`*•.¸)`*•.¸
