Hi

Hopefully I will get lots of good responses on here.

Basically I am pregnant for the 2nd time and wondering about c-secion.

I had a very traumatic labour, my DS was distressed and after 661/2 hours he was born by emergency c-section.

I am currently about 7/8 weeks pregnant and am absolutely terrified already! It has taken me 4 years to even consider getting pregnant - wasn't expecting it to happen that quickly!

Can I chose to have a c-section? I don't want the whole labour & induction (3 times) and pushing for over an hour to still have no progress. They took blood samples from DS head while he was inside & I was strapped to a monitor & everything, I would much rather have my body operated on than put my baby in any distress.

If I have an elective c-section does anyone know how much before your due date they book you in?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Naomi

Hello

Im currently in the same place as you.  I also had a bad  labour last time resulting in emergency section - luckily i was only 19 hours in labour tho!!  They finally clicked after pushing for 90 mins, taking babys blood samples 3 times due to stress that baby was too big - could have told them that much earlier lol.

Im now 16 weeks pregnant and at my 12 week appointment I was seen by a consultant, i get the impression that it really differs within area's but here they seem really good.  Its basically up to me, i can go for a VBAC, or go straight to elective at 39 weeks, suprisingly up here they will also induce (which i didnt think they offered c-section ladies but ive refused that one straight off)

I have an appointment at 36 weeks with the consultant and will get a scan to see how big baby is this time.  I'll make my decision when i get a rough idea of size.  Im a bit mixed at the moment, under no circumstances am i going thru that labour and birth again, however if baby is smaller this time and I could deliver naturally with no problem then of course this would be the better option...c-section recovery with a new born and toddler doesnt sound like much fun to me.  However i do see myself going down the c-section route, baby is already measuring big for dates (im 100% sure of my dates) and im the size of a house, even tho ive not put on weight lol.

Altho your hospital may be keen on VBAC's I dont think they are allowed to refuse you a c-section.

Hi Paula

Thanks for your reply. with my first pregnancy I wanted minimum pain relief via drugs & wanted to use the birthing pool as I found water really relaxing throughout my pregnancy. because my waters broke straight away that was obviously out the window.

I would like to think I could do it naturally, but am also terrified & think I may make things worse by being a nervous wreck. After DS was born the surgeon told my husband there was no way he was coming out of me naturally.

I may, like you, leave my options open and see how big the baby gets, because recovering from a c-section & nursing a newborn is not easy is it?! Can you imagine if men had a similar surgery cutting through so many layers - they would be waited on hand & foot in hospital for weeks!

Anyway - keep me updated on how you get on.
Naomi :-)

Hello naomi!

From what you and your baby went through last time i would agree that you should have the choice! I have no other kids but have been scheduled for my elective c-section at 39 weeks exactly - which is tomorrow!!!!! This was due to a breech presentation.

I hope you care providers help you to make the right decision for you and babs and let us know how you get on.
