Hiya ladies, I'm Charlie and I post on the Mums due feb 2010 board a lot. ive been lurking on this one too, on and off, but want to introduce myself now :) I'm 21 and have bipolar disorder, my boyfriend and I havent been together long (7 months, and 4 of those pregnant!!!) and baby was unplanned but immediately much loved by both of us. our relationship is somewhat love/hate, rather dramatic, and that upsets my bipolar quite a bit. it's actually been a fair bit better since I got pregnant (i'm 16 weeks today) which i think mainly is because i quit smoking, drinking and weed. i havent had any manics (apart from a few mad hours of cleaning but im preeeeetty sure thats more nesting than anything!!!) butb i have had several depressive episodes. i'm just joining for support and wondered if there's any other bipolar ladies or ladies who suffered depression before they got preg? Charlie xx

Hey there Misspixie,
I recognise you from mums due feb 09! I have suffered with depressive episodes since a teenager. During my last pregnancy I suffered with both antenatal and postnatal depression which was so bad I didn't think I'd be able to face another pregnancy. But the desire for another baby plus feeling pretty stable for about 6 months changed my mind. I have stayed on my meds this time, tried a lower dose at the start of my pregnancy which was awful, so back up this time. Moved areas and my MW and GP haver been really supportive along with support from mental health team. I'm hoping that things won't get as bad this time, but I'm prepared if they do. So far so good at the moment.
My mum is bi-polar so know a fair bit about it. How do you feel things are going for you at the moment?
Kirsty

Hi Charlie Welcome to the board, sorry I didn't reply before, I am meant to be covering for the other Charlie but my eldest just started school and life has been nonstop! Sounds like you are doing really well at the moment, well done for giving up the smoking and drinking :) I already had depression when I got pregnant with my second (not bipolar) so I can imagine how you feel. I found it quite up and down but stayed on medication, which helped so much. Make sure you keep an eye on your moods and that your boyfriend knows the signs of when you are low. Sometimes we are the worst at knowing when we are in a bad place, I'm sure you know what I mean! Hugs,
