I know when the baby comes it will be worse..but i need some encouragement

I had a period of my life after my parents died when i could not sleep at all. I suffered months and months of insomnia and could only get to sleep inbetween panic attacks from 6am.

I have had periods of insomnia during this pregnancy, but now over the past week ive only had 4 hrs sleep a night if that and i feel awful. Its got to the point now, where i panic at the thought of trying to sleep.

Ive done all the usual. Before pregnancy i used to find sominex helped me, but cant take that now.

Anyone in the same position

pregnancy

Suffered with this since day 1 of the pregnancy, some weeks are better than others.  Started acupuncture at about 24 weeks as was at the end of my tether which helped for a good few weeks.  However, in the final trimester it hasn't really helped as it's more uncomfortable, weird dreams etc.  I can only suggest you give it a go it can't hurt.

Hi,

Its not quite insomnia but my SPD has flared up from overdoing it yesterday and last night i was in so much pain i cudn't sleep :(

In ur case it may help to write down things that r on ur mind at bedtime or when u wake as its probably these that r causing u not to sleep. Maybe a repeating a night time mantra e.g: I will relax tonight and fall into a natural slumber and wake feeling refreshed!

Saying this several times in the mirror can also help!

Trying not to sleep during the day can help and going to bed when ur tired no matter what the time in the evening rather than when u think u shud go to sleep.

xx

Message: I am sleeping appallingly badly and have done throughout this pregnancy. Like you, I can't find anything that helps because I have no problem getting off to sleep but come 3 or 4 am there I am wide awake. Sometimes I am churning things over in my mind but mostly I am not especially anxious, not especially uncomfortable, just annoyingly wide awake (only to drop off again 10 minutes before the alarm goes).
I assume you have tried all the usual remedies: milky drinks, small glass of wine, camomile tea, no caffeine during the day; no chocolate even? Can you manage a nap during the day at all?
The only thing I can say that you might find slightly reassuring is that I found I had better sleep (and possibly more of it) after the baby was born than in the last few months of pregnancy, both times previously. I am clinging to this hope!
