Hi,

When i had my growth scan on monday @ 33 weeks they predicted the baby to be around 3lb, i knew it wud be small as my others were tiny, however seeing the predicted weights of others at 33 weeks i am a little concerned....... Although in theory baby will be about 6lbs which is where my DD were at full term. What happens if hes early????

Why is it there is such a huge range of sizes between ladies???

Oh and what was the predicted weight for everyone else and how much baby is now and weight at birth????

xx

Hi!

My growth scan - last Monday - 32 weeks, babe weighed 4lb 11oz they thought!  DD was only 5lb 4oz full term, but was 48cm long, so was kind of expecting a light one again!!  But you never know, DD seemed to be growing well and was a good birth length (had no growth scans coz all seemed fine back then) but clearly something went a bit wrong in late pregnancy and she stopped gaining weight!  So this babe may well plateau too.  My placenta wa sa real prob as it got stuck and had to be manually removed, also cord was said to be 'withered' and the width of a toaster wire.  So something stopped working!!  I am taking extra vitamins this time (that pregnacare pack) and drinking loads of milk to see if I can keep calcium levels up as last time I rememebr this was something I gave up on and didn't fancy in 3rd trimester.

Only problem I am finding is what size nappies to take to hosp with me, may have to be micro and size 1!  DD was in micro nappies for weeks!!!  I have bought both and thought that DD can play with micro ones for her baby Annabell if babe turns out to be a biggy!!!

My next growth scan will hopefully show a continued growth up my chart!!

Well when i had my scan last week @ 35wks they've estimated baby to b 5lb 4oz already and about 7lb at birth. But then i've read so much that just says that the estimated weights from scans are so inaccurate that i'm takin it with a pinch of salt anyway. I wouldnt worry too much about estimated weights as its not an exact science.

U also have to take into account family history (mothers side) when it comes to baby weights and likelyhood of early baby. Theres never been a baby born in my family that was over 7lb, DS was 6lb 13.5oz at birth and he was 3 days late, and the rate i'm goin i'll have to first girl not to b born early.

Just to echo what vic said, estimated weights are really inaccurate!  I've been having regular scans for fetal anaemia, and they estimate the weight every time.  At 34+3 the weight was estimated at 5lb 12oz (on the Friday), by the following Weds at 35+1 it was 6lb 11oz!  So apparently it has managed to gain almost a pound in 5 days - I don't think even I had gained that much!  It varies depending on the position of the baby, and the sonographer as well...it is only an estimate.

Hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well,

Love Becs x

Hi All,

I agree with the other ladies growth scans are not accurate (well they never have for me), all my DD of which there is 3 of them were all suppose to be 9lb - 10lb babies on their growth scans and the elder 2 were both 7lb 10oz at term and the youngest 7lb 9oz at 38 weeks.

Im not due my growth scan till the 25th of this month but I wont be taking any notice of what it estimates as its never right.  Im doing my own estimate on junior and think he will be around the late 7lb figure to early 8lb but thats just because I feel he is a baby elephant right now lol.
