Hi All,

We have decided to try for another baby.  We have a two year old daughter and we feel that now is the right time to try for another.

I am just wondering if anyone has any advice about conceiving.  I have been on the pill for the past two years, and before I conceived with my daughter, I had been on the pill for six years or so.  It took me 2 - 3 months to fall pregnant and I guess my real question is is how long should it take now?  How long does it take for the pill to get out of your system and for everything to start working properly - e.g. the eggs being released?

I am just curious to know whether it will take less time to conceieve this time, or will it be around the same time.  I also wondered if anyone has found that taking suppliments like Folic Acid helped with conception.

I hope that this makes sense!

Shar x

Hiya :) Welcome to the board!

Start taking folic acid ASAP - that is a definite must. It depends entirely on all the factors that come down to conceiving.....there is so much that has to go right, that even if you fell qiuickly before, it could take longer this time. I fell pregnant on the pill with DD, and now that we are actually trying, I'm on my 4th cycle (5 months of trying) with no sucess! I was convinced it would happen immediately!

I would say to take the folic acid immediately, and have lots of fun bd'ing ;)

Hope to see you around more :D

folic acid doesn't help to conceive but you should take it anyway cos it helps with the babys development during the 1st 12 weeks of pregnancy so you should take that whilst ttc.

it varies with each person as to how long it will take to get out of your system but i think with the pill it pretty quick but dont bank on it being as quick conceiving this time as is was last as you will find yourself panicking if it doesn't happen so quick. the average time for conceiving is a year although for many it will be much quicker. i was watching a programme last night that said a woman has a 1 in 3 chance of conceiving each month but it all depends on the egg,the sperm when you bd etc.

try to be as relaxed as possible when ttc as i know many people who have tried for ages with no joy the decide to have a month off (and are therefore relaxed) and end up pg without even trying.

i'm sure other people will explain about temping and cervical mucus so i'll leave it to them as i'm not good at that as quite new myself to that part.

good luck with ttc and hope it doesn't take too long

hey hunni welcome to the board!!!

i arent all clued up on the pill but i think it can take up to 6 months for it to clear out of your system though for some it donest take as long.

you should ovulate the first cycle after the pill it just might be that you would ovulate later and have a longer cycle then you did on the pill.

definately start taking folic acid right away. it doesnt help you to actually concieve but it ensures that when you do you have enough folic acid in your system to ensure neural tue defects are prevented.

i hope it doesnt take too long for you to conceive baby no.2. shall look forward to getting to know you over this journey.
