and i was wondering if all those that had a home birth felt closer with that child than one born in Hospital ??

DD 1 is 4 and her birth was forced with a drip and it was all hurry hurry pushing for 2 hrs and so on.
DD 2 is nearly one and her Home birth was just so lovley and relaxed and she arrived with no pushing and when she was ready.

DD 2 is a very calm little thing and goes with the flow and we are very close, but i never had this with DD 1.

I just wondered if anyone else felt this way ???

Hi Jayne,

Lovely to 'see' you again.

DS1 is very much a Daddys' boy and when he wakes in the night it's always Daddy he asks for, and god forbid if I should go in to him instead. DS2 is definately a Mummys' boy, to the point where he won't let DH put him to bed and it's always me that he asks for and goes to when he's upset. So I think that I would say I'm closer to DS2 than I am to DS1 (and the other way around for DH).

DS1 is almost 4 and was born in hospital with the aid of a ventouse after a long and painful labour where I spent a lot of my time being sick (thanks to the diamorphine). I then spent the night in hospital because he was born so late, and they were the longest and lonliest 12hrs of my life.

DS2 is almost 2 and was a home waterbirth, which was so much more relaxing, I was more in control, and it only lasted a fraction of the time that my first labour did (6hrs from first contraction compared to 30+hrs with DS1).

DS1 is what I would call 'spirited', whereas DS2 is so laid back, and like your DD2, he tends to just go with the flow. I'm sure that each of their births has contributed in a small way to their personalities, but I'm not sure whether or not it's had any bearing to how close I am with each of them, and if it is then it's not intentional. I do feel it's more down to personality, but then if that is affected by their birth experience then I suppose the birth could indirectly be part of the reason.

I'm going to throw a spanner in the works and say I am the other way round!

DS1 was born at home in the pool after 4.5 hours of established labour and DS2 was born in hospital after 104 hours without waters, meconium staining, ambulance ride and 2 hours of established labour.

With DS2 I felt like we were in it together as he kept kicking the monitor off lol.  DS1 has always been quite independant (his favourite thing as a newborn was being passed around like a parcel) and DS2 has always been a mummy's boy and wanting cuddles.  DS1 is more relaxed than DS2 which could be because he had a more relaxed birth.

Hiya Jayne,

I've not had a home birth (I'm lurking as I'm thinking a home birth is the way to go should I have another baby) but I do feel closer to one of my kids more than the other and I do often wonder if it could be because of the births.

DS is nearly 7 and his birth was an emergency c-section over 48 hours from first contraction after lots of tests, rushing around and scariness.
DD is almost 1 and she was a forceps delivery about 19 hours after the first contraction. It was very nearly another emergency c-section as we had the same problems and slightly more testing as with DS but when they were giving me the spinal my body started pushing, hence the forceps.

Just thought I'd share.

Yes, I too can relate to this.

DD was born in hospital after a 9-ish hour (albeit quite straightforward) labour.  DS was born at home after a 2.5 hour labour and he is definitely a much more relaxed, calmer baby than my daughter was.

Interesting to think it could be connected to their births!  It certainly makes sense...
