Message: Anyone want to play? I'm sure you remember how this one goes, I'll start with 'A' and the next poster does 'B' etc etc. We could come up with quite a resource I reckon.

So here goes 'A':

"A" is for Autonomy which is a major part of homebirthing. The woman is able to follow her own instincts and go with the flow of her birth process without a whole bunch of medicos and their machines standing by, to get stuck in at her merest swerve from the institutionally prescribed 'norm' of labour.

How about that one!! So who's going to give 'B' a go?

Love,

Toria

Message: B is for Breastfeeding.

Without the interference of the 'well wishing' midwives who can undermine your confidence and can be pushy about bottles and weight. Also bieng in more familiar and relaxed surroundings breastfeeding has a better chance of being established.

Message: C-is for CARING and the wonderfule care I received from my 1 on 1 midwife that I would never have got in hospital.

C is also for c-section. Homebirths have a lower rate beacuse labour progresses better in one's own surroundings and we have better outcomes.

(May I also add, that B is for BIRTHING, no-one delivered my baby, I birthed her myself.)

Message: 'D' is for Deep Breaths, that go right down to the baby and are longer on the out breath than on the in. Deep breathing brings additional oxygen to the muscles of the uterus and cervix which can reduce the pain of muscular contractions and stretching.

Message: E is for 'eating' during your labour. something which is rarely, if ever, allowed in hospital for fear that you may experience complications and need a general anaesthetic. At home, however, if the hard work of labour makes you feel hungry, you can choose to eat if you need to.

I was eating tuna sandwiches just before I went into the second stage of giving birth to Anna.

Also, if you give birth in the middle of the night in hospital, there is little chance of getting any food once it is all over, unless you brought some yourself. At home, you can have a slap meal and champagne to celebrate, if that is what you want to do!!
