I'm thinking about trying BLW (not starting yet of course!), even though we are FF and not BFing. I was wondering if anyone else was thinking of doing the same thing?

Thanks

I am definitely going to try BLW this time, but not sure what the connection is between FF and BFing, why would how you feed them now impact on whether or not you do BLW?

Anyway, my older two sons were really not interested in food until at least 6 months so I figure if Corben is the same then by that time he will be very able to put things in his mouth (he already sucks his hands furiously). I will still do some purees but will also steam/microwave some things until they are soft enough to eat but firm enough for Corben to pick them up and feed to himself. Should be fun ha ha, and maybe less messy as with purees they always get their hands in them and wipe them all over their face (and everything else they can get their hands on).

Hey Laura

If you're still doing some purees surely he'll still get them everywhere? :o) With BLW you shouldn't 'top them up' yourself with puree and a spoon, just let them eat/not eat what they can. Maybe give them a spoon to hold to learn with but not put anything in their mouths yourself. So if they don't do it themselves, they don't eat.

From what I've read BLW is often a follow on from BFing because it's still baby led, so a natural way to go. Baby will carry on BFing and reduce themselves as/when necessary. Apparently with FFing babies are more used to taking however much milk we give them and when (although I'm sure last time I checked I'm sure I wasn't force feeding her more than she wanted lol). I haven't fully learnt about it and can't remember all the details I have read and slightly afraid of posting in case I get it wrong IYKWIM! Also something to do with BM being a drink as well as food, and BF babies have to work harder for their milk.

Most of the guidance seems aimed towards BFers, but I can't see why it should be possible for FFers too as long as we're careful and also offer water regularly with and inbetween 'meals'. Why should we miss out on BLW just because we couldn't/chose to FF hey? :o)

Me me me! I want to go down this route but ooh it doesn't go down well when you mention it to other mums! My friend was appalled yesterday when I told her that I wasn't doing purees. But then she apologized and said I can wean Abigail whatever way I want (um I was gonna!).

Anyway, I also mentioned it at bf group to a few people who look at me like I had two heads :-S
Don;t think i'll me mentioning it again as it's clearly not the norm up here!

Hi,

I'm still undecided. I used a mixture of purees and finger foods with DS and it worked well for us so part of me thinks I should do the same but then I agree with the main ideas associated with blw.

Go for it if it's what you want. I can't see why it wouldn't work with ff. If you demand feed then that's baby led.

I can't believe we're taking about weaning. I keep thinking nooooooo not yet they've only just been born lol. I'm finding it hard to accept that she's growing up.

x
