Message: Samuel had his hearing test today and did really well on doing what was asked of him and we then saw a Dr. afterwards for the results.

His hearing is ok and they plotted the results on a chart. They like the graph to be 30 or above and Samuel's was borderline so there is a problem and on looking inside his ear, the Dr. said it was very obvious (a bit grrr over this as he's had endless ear infections and had his ears looked at) and that was he has glue ear. He did explain it, but it didn't all go in so will have to look it up, but think it basically was that the tube inside his ear is getting sucked in and stuck to the drum and fluid is building up causing a loss of hearing. Something like that anyway, but he does need to have an operation to have grommets put in, which should have instant results. We should get an op date through within 3 months and shouldn't require an overnight stay.

I know they do plenty of these, but I am a little scared about him being put under, so am really dreading watching my little boy being put to sleep and the waiting.

Love,

Hi hun,

Sorry I've only just got to reply to this - been rather AWOL of late with kids being sick etc.

Sorry to hear Samuel has to have an op.  I know it must be a scary prospect but it is a very routine procedure and in the long run it will hopefully help stop any problems.  I had grommets put in when I was 7 as I'd had numerous ear infections and remember sitting through endless hearing tests.  I was in and out in a day and this was in the olden days so I'm sure it's better still these days.

Have they given you any idea when he'll be getting it done?

Hugs to you and the gorgeous littlies

Ally

Hi Ally,

All they said is that I should have a date within 3 months and were there any dates I would rather not have (I just asked not his b'day!) and that he'll be in and out within the day.

I've been told seeing them go under isn't very nice, but as you say it'll be better in the long run as ear infections every 2-3 months is getting ridiculous.

Love,

Hi Rebecca,

I don't know anything about glue ear, I'm afraid, but just posting to say they do ops on really young babies these days and many are routine. Hopefully it will sort out his ear problems and he'll be back to normal before you know it.

hugs
