hi girls

Niamh was 14 days overdue and she has very dry flaky skin on her hands and feet which the hosp recommened olive oil for. she also has flaky skin on her tummy, shoulder and neck creases. im not really sure what to do about it other than bath in plain water and use the olive oil- but its so greasy. im tempted to use baby lotion but not sure if it will be too harsh on her skin at the mo?

Hi,

Alex has really dry skin too, so did my other ds as both were 13 days late. Olive oil is the best thing for them at this stage. My hv told me not to use baby oil as it just sits in their pores whereas olive oil is absorbed into their skin. We have a tummy tub for Alex which seems to be great for getting the dry skin off, much better than a normal baby bath, i have no idea why!

I keep meaning to message you to let you know that I got antibiotics for GBS in hospital, they wouldn't take a risk with it, which made me feel so much better!

Hope everything is going fine for you

Paula & Alex xx

Hi

My son Ben was 5 days overdue and he also has flaky skin, mainly on his chest and hands. The midwife said it will eventually just go and nothing will get rid of it completely.

I also had the antiobiotics for strep B and the syntocinon drip plus the epidural!!

Message: I'd be inclined to leave it but Tacita has a couple of sore cracks where it's so dry. I tried olive oil with DS on his cradle cap but he reacted to it as it can be quite strong so I used almond oil instead and am trying a little of that on Tacita. I don't find it too oily, rub it between my palms to warm then stroke it over her. Do you have baby massage near you? We do but I can't take a distracting toddler with me! (their rules not mine). But I found with DD1 that was a good way to use the oil so that LO gets a relaxing massage at the same time. Start when they're tiny before they start wriggling off! Oh btw the chemist sells almond oil quite cheaply.
