Me again ;-)

I have an appointment with my consultant on Tuesday regarding my medication.

I'm currently on the following;-

20 mg Prednisolone

40mg Clexane

5mg Folic Acid

25 mg Vit B6

75mcg Thyroxine

Progesterone/Oestrogen pessary twice daily

Provera 4 x daily

100mg Aspirin daily

So, i think he's going to halve my steroid dose until 28 weeks then wean me off completely, wean me off the pessaries immediatly and keep me on the Clexane, Aspirin and Provera until 35 weeks. Everything else i'm on for the duration.

I am worried about coming off the Clexane at 35 weeks as i worry what will happen then in terms of blood clots in the placenta but i do understand they want my blood to thicken a little incase of haemorrhage during labour/C section but what if i went in to labour early anyway? Are they telling me i'm at risk of this if that were to happen? Do you think they'd let me come off the clexane then but remain on the aspirin?

Obviously either way i'm going to worry about blood clots/haemorrhage, anyone have any personal experience of using the clexane and aspirin and how you were managed in terms of coming off them and what happened during labour?

Love,
Joanne xx

Hi Honey,
Think you already know my situation but just in case here goes.......................

My IVF clinic wanted me on Clexane till birth however hospital consultant wants me on it till baby is 6 weeks old due to risks to me. I have to come off it for a while before the birth as li. ke you they want my blood to thicken for a while. Not sure exactly when I will stop-have an appointment next Wednesday so should find out then-I will be 36 weeks at my appointment though.

It is weird too soon and I would worry about clotting and too late what if baby comes early................. I have a wonderful consultant that has used claxane alot so just going to go with the flow of what he thinks is best......will let you know what he suggests.

Love

Hi hun,

That'd be great if you could let me know what he says. All the information i can get on this subject is gratefully received.

What risks are they referring to to you for staying on the clexane until 6 weeks after birth? What is the reason they have you on it? Mine's due to the 3 mmc's and testing homozygous positive for the MTHFR gene.

I know some of the other immunies were only on it until 12 weeks.

I can't believe you're over 35 weeks now!!!! Are you all organised?

Message: hun I did the clexane and asprin in both my pgs. First time came off the clex at 20 weeks and asprin at 28. second time there was a diff of opinion between my fert clinic and my obstetrician  - fert clinic were saying 32 weeks min and ob saying 28 weeks. In the end I split the diff and came off at 30 weeks. I cant remember when I stopped the asprin. to tell the truth i just didnt think about it all and left it up to them. By then you know the baby is totally fine and whatever happens you will have a good outcome and the details become just academic - i know right now it wont feel that way for you but my the final trimester you just know all will be fine. Good luck for your pg - the clexane is horrid isnt it? caroline xxxx

PS the steroids i stopped at 12 weeks both times - thank god or i would weigh 40 stone now!!! LOLLilypie Lilypie

Hi Caroline,

Thanks so much for sharing your experience. What was the reason they put you on the clexane in the first place? It's reassuring to know you came off it even earlier than they want me to and all was well. I wonder if they'll let me cease the clexane at 35 weeks but continue with the aspirin. I'll ask the question on Tuesday.

As for the steroids, my goodness, i've already put on over half a stone and i'm not quite 16 weeks!! They still have me on them and along with the bloatedness i have gotten hairy :-( Not too worried about my arms or tummy as they can be covered up generally but my cheeks are hairier and it's embarrassing. DH keeps taking the p%#s which although i can laugh at myself and he's not being cruel it does niggle at me that other people must be thinking..'what the hell' lol!
