Message: Hi all, well William is settling in well at home and is sleeping well most nights having a feed at around 11.30, 2 and 6 am.  Tired but getting some chunks of sleep so not feeling too hard done by.  Proud to say he is still totally breastfed although he got weighed yesterday and had only put on 2oz in a week and although he is still gaining, it's not at the rate they (and me) would like.  He settles, wees and poos well and seems very content so I'm just going to keep going and feed him when he wants within reason and he'll be weighed again on friday.  He is now 5 weeks old and I'm anxiously waiting the first smile - I wondered what others experience was with their prem babies.  He was born at 32 weeks and I'm a little paranoid because of my DD's condition although he's been cleared, she had delays although not at first apparent and smiled at 7 weeks.  whenever he's awake I am like a grinning idiot and any wind smile is gratefully received!

Dear Jenny

Wow, what a little star William is. He sounds like he is doing fantastically. Easier said than done but I wouldnt worry about his weight gain too much. Trouble is the professionals get us all worked up about it as it is a measure. My DD was a shocker for putting on weight, she was BF too, I got encouraged to give her a bottle and it made no difference. The twins are the same. I just seem to have kids that dont put on much weight...unlike me!!!

Glad you are managing to get some sleep..that is pretty good for 1 month old. Im not really a very good judge of development as the boys were born at 26 weeks...They were very delayed with smiling. My DD (full term) smiled at 6 weeks...I think the boys were nearer 6 months. Harry is now a real charmer with his smile...while Joe is more selective but has the most gorgeous dimples.

I completely understand you being 'paranoid' after what you went through with Amy.

Good to 'hear' from you.

Hi,

Sounds as though William is doing brilliantly!

Sophia was born at 30+5 and she first smiled properly at about 10weeks although the health visitor told us not to expect her to smile until she was about 6-8 weeks corrected age (so 16-18 weeks actual age). So, anything before 6-8wks corrected age is a bonus.

Hi Jenny

Lovely to read your update - sounds like William is doing brilliantly!  Well done you on the feeding - that's great news!

I'm trying to remember what age Lewis was when he first smiled - he was born at 32wks (he's 4 now so all seems such a long time ago).  I think it was probably around 6 or 7 weeks.

Keep us posted on how you are getting on - it's lovely to see our premmies doing so well :)

Love Karen xx

Hi Jenny

William sounds like a little star and doing really well.

DS1 was born at 31 weeks and didn't seem to smile for ages but I think it was around 4 months or so and it was a huge smile. I can remember being really pleased & gutted at the same time because it wasn't to me or daddy - it was to a toy dog he had!!! (Still got the dog, he sits at the end of Sam's bed)

He was always a serious baby and even now at nearly 3 years old he can still be really serious but has a wicked sense of humour & makes me belly laugh every day!

Keep on posting the updates, I don't post very often but love seeing how our LO's are getting on & I found the advice and help I got from this board when Sam was born very helpful & comforting.

Kitty, Sam (2 years 11 months - born at 31 weeks) & Ben (10 months - born at 37 weeks)
