hiya

I have a 4 week old that's rapidly growing out of his moses basket. luckily it was given to us so i'm not too upset about the fact, plus he starts hating it because he can't see what's going on around.

so i'm trying to figure out which mattress to get for his cot, there seems to be such a huge choice of types and prices! naturally i'd like to get the best for my LO for as little money as possible %) the cot is a cot-bed which we hope to use until he's at least 4 yo, is there types of mattresses that would last that long?

thanx
lil umka

Hiya and thank you for posting on the board.

Congratulations on your baby boy!  They never do last long in their moses basket do they?

I have a cot bed for my DD who has just turned 2.  Her cot is from M&P but the matress is from Mothercare.  It is of good quality so am sure it would last her until she is 4.

It all depends on your budget really as to what you get ie a sponge or sprung mattress but I guess if you want to use it until your son is 4 then a sprung one would last longer.

You don't have to get the most expensive one though.  Have a look online at Mothercare, M&P and Babies r Us for some ideas.

HTH x

Hi

I remember the problems with cot mattresses - I got so confused!

The one we got for DS2's cotbed was from mothercare and has a removble breathable cover and is just foam, its proved to be pretty good and I think was about £75.

We then got another one for DS1's toddler bed (so cotbed mattress) and we just a foam one from John Lewis thinking it would be similar to the mothercare one but its useless! He has only been sleeping on it a few months and already it has a massive dip in it from when he lays (he isnt heavy) even though I turn it everytime I change the sheets and the cover on top has all worn away. Have to buy a new one soon which I didnt want to do after a few months!

I recommend just buying the best you can afford, when I get another mattress I will go for a spring one I think (which is what DS1 had on his cot and was great) Make sure you get one with a cover you can remove though - vital if LO is sick on it like DS1 was on his the other night!

xx Han

Good point Han,

Forgot to say mine has a removable breathable cover that you can zip off and wash which I agree is a must!

Message: thanx for advice girls. so i should look for sprung mattress with a removable cover - that narrows it down loads ))) not sure about getting one from mothercare though - they seem to be pricier than a lot of shops on other stuff, like maternity wear, plus i wasn't impressed last two times i shopped there - didn't find anything i was after ((
