Hi all

I have had enough of the NHS. I am getting passed from pillar to post.

Yesterday a nurse from the EPU phone me to tell me that the miscarriage specialist is too busy to see me and as i have been seeing a gyni about other problems to stick with her. I have an appointment in Dec to see her anyway. The nurse suggested that i have my GP arrange the blood tests for any problems that cause the m/c. This way the results would be in intime for my appointment.

I went to the GP today and he was happy to do the tests but wanted to check all the tests needed. He phoned the EPU who then told him that it has to be the consultant who arranges them. He explained to them that it would save time for me to do them now but they would not change their minds.

Why are they telling me one thing and him another. What is the big deal? I mean there is a problem why im miscarrying so why not test now?

Im absolutley sick of it. I feel like my hands are tied. I have to wait on someones approval. If i went private the tests would be done tomorrow.

Sorry for going on about it. I just feel like im getting overlooked.

Dear Helen,

I'm not surprised you've had enough. The way they are treating you is really appalling. From what you've said it seems that that miscarriage specialist consultant is giving you the runaround. Too busy to see you? Until when is she too busy? She must have some free appointments in her working life. Is it most likely her you want to see, since she is a specialist in the area rather than the other gynae?

If that's the case then perhaps getting in touch with the hospital's PALS service would help, to make a complaint against her. And if she is too busy, then perhaps she could refer you to another specialist recurrent miscarriage clinic like St Mary's or Liverpool, depending on where you live. Perhaps you could mention age discrimination in your complaint, since she told you that - I think - in your other message. That would put the wind up, I imagine.

Hugs to you anyway, honey. You deserve better.

hugs

Hi Helen,

What a palava passing you around, I work for a call centre in my local NHS hospital and tend to find that the consultant secretary's are more helpful than EPAU/wards. Can you not trying ringing the secretary or ringing switch board and get them to put you through to them, i've found myself that EPAU seem to have there hands tied and only report to a registar where as when i've spoken to sec's (in my job and personally) they have more power to speak directly to the consultant rather than a nurse who deals with the same things day in day out and you just feel like your a number in with loads of other women!

My GP arranged my blood tests and EPAU said my GP had arranged more than they would which i was quite glad about, but it was EPAU who arranged chromosones tests I think was only because my gp thought there was no point as we have DS and they said chromosones should be fine (I get my results in 3wks).

I really hope you get somewhere with them coz i know how you feel waiting for something to be done!

Hi everyone

thanks for your suppanort. I really need all the help i can get at the mo. I have been thinking about putting a complaint in as the service i have had is a joke. i just phoned the EPU again and spoke to the nurse who has been dealing with me. She is going to do the test tomorrow. I explained to her what had happened at the docs this morning and she said the GP can do the tests no problem. I dont know why they told him other wise.

They should remember that they are dealing with people who are in a terrible place and need as much help as they can get.

I cant be the only person who has been treated like this. Why do you pay your stamp every month when the care is not there when needed.

There isa lot to be said for private health care. If only i was rich

Thanks everybody

Oh good at least she has agreed to check your bloods. I agree with you, they leave alot to be desired!!!! At my EPAU there is one nurse who gets right on my nerves, she is so easy to dismiss anything i say, says everytime i go it's just one of those things, what 5m/c???  and i've heard her talking to patients in the corridor about there symptoms.....very unprofessional!!! But he sister is lovely i found her really helpful she arranged for me to see the recurrent m/c consultant, she also told me if I m/c again i can ask to be referred to Liverpool hospital where they have a rmc clinic and gave me loads of other good advice, why can't they all be like that!!

let us know how you get on with your results xxx
