Hello ladies,

Well my DH finally put his foot down and we gave James 2oz of formula last night at 2am, he had been screaming for hours and fed off me over and over and kept falling asleep and waking up 5 mins later, once he had the feed he was asleep in 10 mins and woke up at 6 this morning.

Anyway, not sure if we will do the same tonight, we will see.

Just woken up from a morning 2 hour nap with James, the first time ever!

Glad you managed to get him settled and you have had a little sleep

You have to do what is right for both you and James, if giving him a bottle at night is helping keep you sane then go for it, dont feel guilty, you are giving him everything else he needs

Hi Errin,

Sounds like it did everyone some good and got you all some much needed sleep. I don't want to encourage you to give up breastfeeding by any means, but I had similar problems with my first 2, constant screaming and no sleep! I have to say that formula feeding did help me out and solved our problems, but I felt guilty with my first because of everyone telling me BF was best. It may be that somehow your supply isn't enough for James, or he isn't getting to the more filling hindmilk?

Whatever you decide to do, make sure it is your decision and you are completely happy with it. Don't feel guilty at all if you decide FFing is for you, as you have done a fab job for 4 weeks and given James the best of starts!

If you decide to continue BFing, have you posted what has been happening on the breast feeding support board or spoken to a local support group? I always wondered whether I would have been able to continue BFing if I had more of an idea of what was going on and how to fix it!

So glad you got some sleep though!

Jo x

Hi

Glad you got some sleep the other night. How did you get on last night? You have to do what is best for you & James, and if that's FF, then so be it. Don't feel bad about it.

Hugs

Hey hun

We gave James some more formula last night at 10pm, he gulped it down and then went on my breast for a bit more, he then was content and fell asleep from 11 -3.23, after that I gave him breast and he was asleep on me until 6 am this morning.

I have bought some more bottles today so I can express the feed at 10pm, so I have a bit more to give him in the day if he needs it.

I am hoping this just isnt coincidence and that he really is benefiting from this extra food. Saying that he hasnt pooed today yet so its swings and roundabouts! xxxxxx
